The STRETCH Jug has been designed as a product to utilise the specialist skills and facilities of JamFactory’s Glass and Metal Design Studios. The jug itself is hand-formed using traditional glass blowing processes, while the anodised aluminium stirrers require precise industrial metalworking techniques in their production. The combination of these two elements ensures that each jug is unique and both studios use the manufacturing of the STRETCH Jug as a valuable training tool for participants in JamFactory’s two-year Associate program.
About the artist
Deb Jones was born in New South Wales and graduated from the Canberra School of Art with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Glass) in1992. She moved to Adelaide to undertake the Associate training program in the JamFactory Glass Studio from 1993–1994. Deb has had a long association with the JamFactory and from 2008–2011 she was the Glass Studio’s principal designer. She has been a prominent artist in the South Australian public art realm including major installations at the University of South Australia and Lyell McEwin
Hospital. Her strongly minimalist works are also held in
significant public collections including the National Gallery of Victoria, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and Art Bank Australia.
Christine Cholewa completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Glass) at Alberta College of Art and Design in 2003. She was an Associate in the JamFactory Glass Studio from 2004–2006 and Studio Coordinator from 2008–2011. She maintains a significant practice as an exhibiting artist and also produces a variety of successful production work for retail sale.
Deb and Christine are based in Adelaide at Gate 8 Studio and are currently working on other collaborative projects. Both designers are deeply informed in their work by the specific nature of glass as material.
